Your Roadmap to Independence

Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island provides a comprehensive range of education programs and related services designed to fully support students in meeting their goals. We strive to support their roles as students, workers, and community members.

We offer a variety educational opportunities tailored to specific student needs and goals.

  • High School Equivalency/Adult Basic Education prepare students in five content areas for High School Equivalency (GED & NEDP) testing: Mathematics, Languages Arts Reading, Language Arts Writing, Science, and Social Studies. Our College Readiness classes focus on Language Arts, math, and computer basics. In addition, we offer a Low Literacy program of emerging literacy skills for English speaking adults.
  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and Civics/Citizenship Preparation courses are all offered through our Education Department.
  • Family Literacy program engages entire families in learning and helps parents become advocates for their children’s educational career as well as learning English.
  • The Career Academy integrates contextualized education with skills training in specific career pathways and is currently focusing on medical interpreting. These six-week courses end with a four-week internship giving participants hands-on experience.
