Who we are

Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island works to empower refugees and immigrants in the community by providing vital programs and services for legal aid and representation for citizenship and immigration, refugee resettlement, education, and more to help the people it serves to thrive and be successful.

Our organization has taken different shapes during our 100 years of service — but our commitment to our most vulnerable community members' success remains the same.

These are our core values:

Mission

We empower individuals and families, especially immigrants, refugees, and the underserved, to become self-sufficient and fully participating members of our diverse community through innovative programs and advocacy that promote education, training, and cultural understanding.

Purpose

We welcome all those who are working to overcome cultural, educational, economic and language barriers; and we empower them to achieve self-sufficiency and to participate actively in our community.

Approach

We provide client-centered services, advocacy and opportunities based on our expertise in family literacy and adult education, employment services, refugee resettlement, translating and interpreting, and U.S. citizenship and immigration services.

Commitment

We are committed to building on the diversity and strength of the people we serve as an investment in a stronger and more connected community.
